Following the review by the Boundary Commission for England taking effect at the 2010 general election, the North Cornwall constituency shares the same area as the former North Cornwall district. Before 2010, it covered a larger area, including a number of wards from the former Restormel district (Edgcumbe North, Edgcumbe South, Gannel, Rialton, Rock, St Columb and St Enoder) and the town of Newquay, which have been transferred to the new St Austell and Newquay seat. The Stoke Climsland ward has been moved from South East Cornwall to North Cornwall.[2]
As part of the Sixth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies which commenced in 2011, the Boundary Commission for England propose creating a cross-border Cornwall/Devon seat which would take just under half the current electorate of North Cornwall[3]. The proposed "Bideford and Bude" would join Bideford, Torrington, and Hartland with Tintagel, Bude and Launceston[4].
