The North-East District is one of the official districts of Botswana. Its capital is Masunga. In 2001, North-East had a population of 132,422 people. The North-East District is predominatly occupied by Kalanga speaking people (the BaKalanga). The area has been under leadership and control of the bangwato tribe. Their leader is Tshekedi Khama.
In the north and east, North-East borders the Matabeleland South Province of Zimbabwe. In the south and west, North-East District borders Central District.

Geography
The Nata River flows through the North-East District and is a significant gathering place for wildlife including birds.[1] The Nata River continues to flow to the Makgadikgadi Pans, where it discharges.[2]
