Named after a particularly speedy 19th-century clipper ship, Northern Light Group (formerly Northern Light Technology) wants to shed some, well, light on searching the Internet. Founded in 1995 by software firm Dataware Technologies (later called LeadingSide), the company indexes the Internet to provide research on companies and markets. The employee-owned company's claim to fame is its patented prioritization system, which places search results in custom folders by topic. Northern Light was acquired by divine, inc. in early 2002 and regained its independence the following year, following divine's collapse.
