For 40 years Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding (NGSB; formerly Newport News and Ship Systems) is the sole builder of the US Navy's nuclear aircraft carriers (it's also one of only two nuclear submarine builders -- the other is General Dynamics). A sector of Northrop Grumman, the largest naval shipbuilding company in the world (General Dynamics is #2), NGSB builds, maintains, refuels, and repairs nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. Besides the design and building of aircraft carriers, expeditionary warfare, surface combatants, submarines, commercial oil hull tankers, and Coast Guard surface ships, NGSB also provides aftermarket fleet support. Shipbuilding represents over 18% of its parent's sales.
