A recent decision by Nottingham City Council was to bring in parking permits for students, costing £70 annually per permit, while all other households receive up to three permits for free[2]. Despite campaigning from the University of Nottingham Students' Union against these charges [3], the council proceeded with their introduction, arguing that "Placing a charge on a student permit might encourage a student to think more carefully about if it is entirely necessary to have a car in Nottingham."
