Novembergruppe

Association of Left-Wing German artists and architects founded immediately after their nation's defeat in the 1914–18 war. It included Bartning, Gropius, Häring, Hilbersheimer, the Luckhardts, Mendelsohn, Mies van der Rohe, and the Tauts. Many members were also active in Arbeitsrat für Kunst, and the group exhibited and argued in favour of what was to become the Modern Movement. It ceased to be a force by 1931 and was banned by the National Socialists in 1933.
