NOW project

 

(Network Of Workstations) A parallel computing project at the University of California at Berkeley. Developed in the mid-1990s with support from DARPA and NSF, its focus was on exploring high-speed interconnects between multiple computers. Some of the clustering technology developed for NOW was handed down to the subsequent Millennium system. See Millennium project and Beowulf.
