With the resurgence of '80s nostalgia reaching a feverish pitch in the late '90s (ex-Culture Club reunion, package tours of '80s artists, etc.), it should come as no surprise that '80s cross-dressers Dead Or Alive have returned with Nukleopatra, their first release in over a decade. Even if the band couldn't resist including two remixes of their huge '80s smash "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," they've made a successful transformation toward '90s dance music. Originally released on Sony Japan in 1995, the '98 U.S. reissue of Nukleopatra includes several new tracks not found on the Sony Japan version. Flamboyant singer Pete Burns has not mellowed over the years in the slightest; his vocals remain unpolished and in your face, as a dance cover of David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" proves. Also present are a cover of Blondie's "Picture This," the opening technoid title track, and two versions of "Sex Drive" (one of which is included as a U.S.-only bonus track). ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

Nukleopatra is the sixth studio album from British dance music band Dead or Alive. Still a massive success in Japan, Epic Records released Nukleopatra there in 1995. Left without a record contract in the UK and the US, this album did not get released in other territories until years later. Nukleopatra was eventually issued on several different labels, with varying track listings, timings and album artwork.

On some versions of Nukleopatra the Burns vocal was retained from the original version of "Sex Drive" with a newly-recorded instrumental track.

Included in this album is the song "Sex Drive", originally recorded and released by lead singer Pete Burns as a one-time guest vocalist for Italian house music act Glam.

Versions

The Japanese version features longer versions of the tracks "Nukleopatra" and "Sex Drive" and the original version of "Unhappy Birthday".

The European / Australian version includes a longer, different version of "Rebel Rebel"

The European / Australian and the US versions both feature the 12" Remix of "Unhappy Birthday" and the 1996 'Sugar Pumpers Radio Remix' of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)".

The US version features shortened versions of "Getting It On" and "Spend the Night Together". It also includes an exclusive 'Jail House Mix' of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" and the 'Scream Driven Mix' of "Sex Drive".

Both the 'Sugar Pumpers Radio Remix' of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" and the 'Scream Driven Mix' of "Sex Drive" later appeared on the US double CD You Spin Me Round / Sex Drive remixes.
