OAIster was a project of the Digital Library Production Service[1] of the University of Michigan University Library[clarification needed]. Its goal is to create a collection of freely available, previously difficult-to-access, academically-oriented digital resources that are easily searchable by anyone. OAIster harvests from Open Archives Initiative (OAI)-compliant Digital Libraries, Institutional Repositories, and Online Journals using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) protocol.
In early 2009, OAIster was taken over by Online Computer Library Center (OCLC).[2]
