Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand is a book by Leonard Peikoff, which he describes as "the first comprehensive statement of Objectivist philosophy." It is the only systematic presentation of Objectivism to be published in book form. The book is based on a series of lecture courses that Peikoff first gave in 1976 and that Ayn Rand publicly endorsed. Peikoff has stated that only Ayn Rand was qualified to write the definitive statement of her philosophic system, and that the book should be seen as an interpretation by her "best student and chosen heir".[citation needed]
The book was voted the third greatest non-fiction book of the 20th century in the general Modern Library poll.[1]
This book is volume six of the "Ayn Rand Library" series edited by Leonard Peikoff.
Among people conversant with Objectivist literature, the book is often referred to by its acronym OPAR ("Oh-Par").[citation needed]
