On this date in 1964, at age 35, Martin Luther King, Jr., became the youngest man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He donated the money that accompanied the honor (some $54,000) to the civil rights movement. To date, the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize is Mairead Corrigan, who was 32 when the prize was awarded in 1976. She and Betty Williams received the award for their work as founders of the Northern Ireland Peace Movement.
