P.G. Wodehouse, the writer who created the aristocratic Bertie Wooster and his butler, Jeeves, was born on this date in 1881. Born in England, Wodehouse lived much of his life in the United States. He wrote prolifically, producing 96 novels, 18 plays and more than 400 songs, including lyrics for dozens of musicals. A recurring setting in many of his stories was Blandings Castle. Shortly before his death in 1975, Wodehouse was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
