Ogie Alcasid

Herminio Alcasid, Jr., more popularly known as Ogie Alcasid (born August 27, 1967), is a Filipino singer, songwriter, comedian, composer, television host, actor, and entrepreneur.

Recording career

Alcasid debuted as a singer in 1989 with the release of his self-titled album. Ogie Alcasid reached gold record status, while his debut single "Nandito Ako" (I Am Here) was awarded "Song of the Year" by local radio station Magic 89.9. He has since released 18 albums, including a Christmas album (Larawan ng Pasko/ Images of Christmas, 1994), a live album (OA sa Hits (Live), 2002), and four greatest hits albums.

He has received a total of five gold records, three platinum records, and three double platinum records.^[1]

Television career

Alcasid's television career started as one of the hosts of comedy show Small Brothers on ABS-CBN on 1992. He also appeared on other comedy programs such as ABS-CBN's Mana Mana (from 1991 to 1992), ABC's Tropang Trumpo (from 1994 to 1995), GMA Network's Bubble Gang (from 1995 to present), and QTV's Ay, Robot! (from 2005 to 2007).

He also branched out as a game show host, beginning in ABS-CBN's Game Na Game Na on 1995 and the Philippine version of Family Feud on ABC-5 in 2001. Alcasid also recently hosted Celebrity Duets: Philippine Edition on GMA with Regine Velasquez and is currently one of the main hosts on musical variety show SOP Rules.^[1] Alcasid had his own break in a GMA Primetime drama Hanggang Kailan opposite Lorna Tolentino and Christopher de Leon. This was Alcasid's first drama show and he also sung its main theme with Aiza Seguerra.

Alcasid is recently the judge in Pinoy Idol.^[2] and hosted in his new game show Da Big Show. He played a spoiled brat Angelina in "Ang Spoiled" segment on Bubble Gang. Angelina's notable quote from "Ang Spoiled" segment is "Whatever yaya, you're such a loser" while using finger gestures on a maid (Michael V.)

Film career

Alcasid has appeared in 30 movies either as the leading man or a sidekick. He first appeared as a leading man in the fantasy flick Feel na Feel (I Really Feel It) with Manilyn Reynes in 1990. Other notable movies include Si Ayala at si Zobel (Ayala and Zobel, 1994), Isko Adventures in Animasia (1995), Bestman: 4 Better, Not 4 Worse (2002), and Shake, Rattle and Roll 2k5 (2005).^[1][3]

Alcasid made a big screen comeback as the lost sister of Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, Iza Calzado and Marian Rivera in the sequel of Desperadas shown during the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival. He played another female character in OMG (Oh, My Girl!) opposite Judy Ann Santos.

Alcasid returns again to the movie scene in his GMA Films comedy movie "Yaya and Angelina: The Spoiled Brat Movie" which he plays "Angelina" together with Michael V. who plays "Yaya" were they're very wacky in the movie.

Business career

Alcasid owns a chain of hot dog stalls called Oggie Doggie.^[4]

Personal life

He was married to Michelle van Eimeren, Australia's representative to the 1994 Miss Universe pageant; they had 2 daughters. After their divorce, Michelle and her children moved back to Australia. He is in a relationship with singer-actress Regine Velasquez.

His closest friends include Michael V. and Janno Gibbs.
