OPERS' opus is retirement planning. The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), manages retirement and health care benefits for more than 900,000 Buckeye State employees and their beneficiaries. OPERS has some $78 billion under management. Domestic investments make up about 44% of the system's portfolio holdings, while international equity and global bonds and add another 21% and 23%, respectively.
