Mission

To sustain and enhance the highest quality of education provided to all pupils and enable individuals to achieve their full potential within a secure and caring learning environment. [1]

Facilities

The school features a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a large playing field. The school is made up of different sections. There is the main building, the south block, the maths block & science block, the sports hall along with smaller demountables and also the sixth form block. There is a "Quad" sitting area which has recently been revamped. Additions to the Quad include blue and red (the school colours) benches spelling out 'Olchfa'. The Drama hall and main hall are used for lunch times and assemblies. The school has good Science and Technology suites, a Drama and Theatre Arts Hall, a well-stocked Library Resource Centre and comprehensive IT provision as well as after-school classes which include sports and chess club. The school has a well-established European programme of visits and exchanges including rugby and netball exchanges.

Extra curricular activities

At the end of the summer term the timetable is suspended for a few days for activities. Pupils have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities, some in this country, some in Europe and many based in school and the local area but all with a strong educational focus.

Olchfa for many years has had a strong Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme with students having the opportunity to undertake all levels of Award after school or during lunch hours.

Developments

The school was opened in 1969. In recent years, many improvements have been made to the school. The entrance to the school was improved in 2006-2007 and a new reception was built. There were criticisms from some pupils as some people preferred the older entrance. Other improvements to the school include the main hall which has been painted and some doors have been changed in the area.

A new block was built near the sports hall which made room for more maths and science classes. The school increased its safety by installing blue fences around the whole school. During the evening, the whole field can be closed and locked.
