Oliver Prescott

Prescott, Oliver (1731-1804) Revolutionary War army officer, born in Massachusetts. Prescott attended Harvard College and began a successful career as a physican while dabbling in politics. He actively opposed the Stamp Act (1765) and was clerk of the Groton committee of correspondence (1774). Prescott treated the wounded from Lexington and Concord and from the Battle of Bunker Hill (all 1775). He served as brigadier general of the Middlesex County militia and, in 1778, as second major general of the state militia. A well-respected physician, he was a founding member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
