Olmsted Township is a township located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the township had a population of 13,513.[3] It is one of only two civil townships remaining in Cuyahoga County and the only Olmsted Township statewide.[4]

Geography
Located in the western part of the county, it borders the following cities and townships:
- North Olmsted - north
- Olmsted Falls - southeast, west of Berea
- Berea - southeast, east of Olmsted Falls
- Brook Park - northeast
- Columbia Township, Lorain County - south
- Eaton Township, Lorain County - southwest corner
- North Ridgeville - west
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 10.0 sq mi. All of the area consists of land, and none of it is covered with water.
History
In 1795, 49 investors formed a syndicate to purchase a major part of the Western Reserve from the U.S. state of Connecticut. One of these investors, Aaron Olmsted, became the owner of thousands of acres from his $30,000 share of the $120,000 total land deal. His land encompassed the areas now known as North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township (originally known as Lenox).[citation needed]
Government
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[5] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees. As of 2011, the board was composed of James Carr, Tom Bush, and Sherri Lippus and the fiscal officer was Daniel Faust.[6]
Education
Olmsted Township is served by the Olmsted Falls School District.
Cityscape
Although Olmsted Township is considered to be a suburb of Cleveland it is very rural. Only recently it has seen some suburbanization happening. Older homes from the 20's through the 60's are located on the Township's major streets. These homes are situated on lots of acreage. Olmsted also has some small neighborhoods containing split levels and ranches from the 60's. The Township also contains two trailer parks: One off of Columbia Road and one off of Bagley Road. Lately, New subdivisions have been popping up all over the city as a result of a building boom. These communities are filled with young upper middle class families.
