The overland attack, involving some 30, 000 troops, that relieved the besieged U.S. Marine base at Khe Sanh on April 7, 1968. The siege, which had lasted for seventy-eight days, resulted in 730 battle deaths, 2, 598 wounded, and 7 missing. The relationship between Khe Sanh and the Tet Offensive of 1968 continues to be the most controversial aspect of the siege as many believe Hanoi deceived Gen. William C. Westmorelandinto excessively focusing on Khe Sanh. The United States withdrew from Khe Sanh on July 6.
