An ophiolite is a piece of the oceanic crust which has be obducted onto the continental mass. It generally consists of a 4 layer makeup. The bottom layer includes peridotites, the next layer gabbro, then basalt and on top is a thin layer of microorganisms. The ophiolites are rare and generally small in nature.
