1. A town in the territory of Benjamin (Josh 18:23), prominent in the war between the Philistines and Israel (I Sam 13:17), known in the Roman period as Afairema, or Aifraim. It was in the center of the northern district of Judah from 145 B.C. until the conquest by Pompey. Identified with et-Taiyibeh, five miles (8 km) north of ancient Michmash.

2. The town of Joash the Abiezrite where the angel of God appeared to Gideon, his son, and where he built an altar (Judg 6:11-12, 24) and was buried (Judg 8:32). Identified with several places in the Jezreel Valley; possibly Afuleh.

3. Son of Meonothai of the family of Judah.
