optic canal

(anatomy) The channel at the apex of the orbit, the anterior termination of the optic groove, just beneath the lesser wing of the sphenoid bone; it gives passage to the optic nerve and ophthalmic artery.

The short canal through the lesser wing of the sphenoid bone at the apex of the eye socket through which the optic nerve and the ophthalmic artery pass. Also called optic foramen.
