Marketing Dictionary: order number

1. Reference number used by a wholesaler, manufacturer, or retailer to identify a particular order, such as a reference number used by a list user or list broker to identify a list rental order.

2. Reference number used in fulfillment to link a customer record on a computer file to the hard-copy order document that initiated the record. It usually consists of a document batch identification number and the order entry date.
