The city has industries producing oil, chemicals, and metal products. The majority of the city's area is open farmland, where tomatoes, soybeans, greenhouse vegetables, fruits, and grains are grown.

Oregon is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 19,355 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Oregon is located at 41°38′57″N, 83°27′41″W (41.649094, -83.461514)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 98.7 km² (38.1 mi²). 76.1 km² (29.4 mi²) of it is land and 22.6 km² (8.7 mi²) of it (22.87%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 19,355 people, 7,708 households, and 5,318 families residing in the city. The population density was 254.4/km² (658.8/mi²). There were 8,025 housing units at an average density of 105.5/km² (273.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.91% White, 1.00% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.72% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.76% of the population.

There were 7,708 households out of which 30.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 27.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $45,777, and the median income for a family was $57,156. Males had a median income of $42,631 versus $28,897 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,619. About 3.4% of families and 4.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.6% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over.

Attractions

Perhaps the most well-known attraction in Oregon is the Sundance Drive-In, one of the last in the area. Also, Maumee Bay State Park and Pearson Park (a Toledo Metropark) are within the city limits.
