Oriental Institute is a name given to a number of institutions of higher education throughout the world that are engaged in the study of Asian culture, languages and history. Traditionally, such institutes focus on the historic Near East, but this is not necessarily the case today. Some institutions of higher education in Asia are called Oriental Institutes, but are not specifically focused on Asian culture
