a protein that is homologous with spermatogenesis factor (fer-1) of Caenorhabditis elegans, and is related to dysferlin and myoferlin of humans. It consists of 1977 amino acids, with a transmembrane segment close to the C-terminus, the rest being intracellular. Several mutations cause an isolated profound deafness.
