Dictionary of Dance: Ottavio Cintolesi

Cintolesi, Ottavio (b Santiago, 14 Apr. 1924). Chilean dancer, choreographer, and ballet director. He studied at the Dance Conservatory of the University of Chile with Uthoff, Jooss, and V. Sulima. In 1946 he joined the National Ballet of Chile, where he became principal dancer and choreographer in 1948 and ballet master in 1950. In 1958 he became founder-director and chief choreographer of the Santiago Ballet, a position he held until 1966. After working mostly in Europe in the 1970s he returned to the Santiago Ballet (1979-82).
