Oumare Tounkara (born 25 May 1990)[1] is a French footballer player of Guinean descent who plays as a striker.[2]

Tounkara signed a professional contract with Ligue 2 outfit Sedan in the 2008/09 season but he didn't play any matches there with 12 months at the club. He left the club in the summer of 2009 to join Premier League side Sunderland after a trial period at the club.
Tounkara moved from French Ligue 2 outfit Sedan to Sunderland in summer 2009 after a trial period, taking part in the reserve team's pre-season friendly fixtures.
After the 2009-10 season, Tounkara signed a contract extension, before playing in first team friendlies against the likes of Darlington, where he impressed with his strength and power. He scored against York City in pre-season 2011.[3]
On August 5, 2010, Tounkara, along with team-mate Jean-Yves M'voto joined Oldham Athletic on a season-long loan deal.[4] He scored his first goal for Oldham in a 3-0 victory against Notts County on 14 September, impressing with his strength and power.[5] He completed his loan spell having played 44 games and scoring 7 goals and returned to Sunderland.[6]
On emergency loan deadline day, Thursday 22 March 2012, Tounkara again signed on loan for Oldham Athletic on loan until the end of the season.[7] He made eight appearances for the club, scoring one goal on the last day of the season as the club beat Carlisle 2-1.[8]
At the end of 2011/12 season Tounkara returned to Sunderland after a spell at Oldham Athletic which he made eight appearances and one goal. On 19 May 2012 it was announced that he was amongst nine players released by Sunderland.[9]
Tounkara was named in the provisional squad for France's Under-20 team for the 2011 Toulon Tournament, but was not included in the final squad.[6]
