Paris: On Foot: On Ice: Outdoors

There are three outdoor skating rinks in Paris, and these are open mid-December through February. The most popular one is at the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville (4th), which is absolutely magical at night when the Hôtel de Ville (Paris Town Hall) is lit up. The other rinks are at the Place Raoul Dautry (15th, at the foot of the Tour de Montparnasse) and at the Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad (19th, at the Bassin de la Villette). Free entry, skate rental €5, double-bladed skates for kids are free. Weekday mornings are usually reserved for school groups, and then it’s open to the public from early afternoon to 10pm. Weekends, 9am till 10pm; open until midnight Friday and Saturday. For more information check the Town Hall’s web site (www.paris.fr) or look in the December issue of Pariscope for “Patinoire.”
