Spain occupies most of the Iberian Peninsula, and the people of Spain often refer to their country as the "Bull Skin" (Piel de Toro) because of the shape of its territory. Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe (behind France) and with an average altitude of 650 m, the second highest country in Europe (behind Switzerland).
The Kingdom of Spain[1] is a constitutional monarchy which has been a member of the European Union since 1986.It has a central administration with extensive regional devolution.
Spain is organized into "Autonomous Communities" and "autonomous cities" each with its own parliament. The common language is "Castelliano" but there are several "co-official" regional languages which may be used for official purposes. There are additionally several variations of Spanish in daily use
The municipalities of Spain, 8111 in total, are the basic level of Spanish local government.
