Overjoyed

Album Review: Overjoyed

Review

On Overjoyed, DJ Patife repeats the successful formula of his two previous albums, mixing drum'n'bass, soul and more traditional Brazilian popular music as samba and bossa nova. The lack of new ideas was harshly criticized by some reviewers, but the music in itself is as elegant and well produced here as on DJ Patife's previous releases. One difference on Overjoyed in comparison to Cool Steps and Trama Drum 'N' Bass Sessions is that practically all the tracks have proper lyrics (as opposed to sampled phrases), some of them in Portuguese and some in English. The title track by Stevie Wonder is one of the highlights of the album, as is the percussion driven "Made in Bahia." Worth extra mention are also "The Secret" and "Enigma," which both are elegant hybrids of drum'n'bass and bossa nova. ~ Philip Jandovský, All Music Guide
