a fragment, produced by partial hydrolysis of a polypeptide or protein, that contains both the C-terminal part of the sequence of another peptide fragment and the N-terminal part of a further fragment, allowing those two to be placed in the correct position in the overall sequence of the parent compound during protein sequencing procedures.
