Pailhead was a short-lived side project of the industrial music metal band Ministry, which featured the vocals of Ian MacKaye, formerly of The Teen Idles and Minor Threat, and currently of Fugazi and The Evens. The band's sound was a dark combination of menacing industrial beats and hardcore punk, predating what Ministry would later do with Jello Biafra in Lard.
Considering MacKaye's inadvertent role in the establishment of the straight edge community and Paul Barker and Al Jourgensen's legendary drug use, one would never have expected them to collaborate.
Pailhead only released two records in 1988, the single "No Bunny"/"I Will Refuse" (released in both 7" and 12" formats) and the 4-song 12" Trait. both on the Wax Trax label. The CD edition of Trait (track listing below) also incorporates both sides of the "No Bunny"/"I Will Refuse" single.
- "Man Should Surrender"
- "Anthem"
- "Don't Stand in Line"
- "Ballad"
- "I Will Refuse"
- "No Bunny"
These tracks were later re-released on Ministry's odds-and-ends compilation Side Trax.
