Pakistan Time (PKT) is the time zone for Pakistan. It is 5 hours ahead of GMT/UTC (UTC+05:00).

History

The current Pakistan time (PKT) was set up at midnight between 30 April and 1 May 1954. Before this, PKT used to be according to British ruled Calcutta local time as Indian standard time (IST) which came into use on 1 January 1906, and was also applied to Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) till partition of subcontinent.
