Palringo is a server-based instant messaging client for various platforms. It supports several protocols such as AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, XMPP/Jabber, Google Talk, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, MobileMe/iChat and Facebook IM.[1] As of May 11, 2012, Palringo stopped supporting third party IM protocols to focus on their own group messaging system. [2]

The application is available for most common desktop and mobile platforms. It supports Microsoft Windows, Windows Phone 7, Mac OS X, Android, iOS, bada and Linux. Clients are also available for Java ME, Symbian, BlackBerry OS and Windows Mobile, but it was announced in March 2012 that these would no longer be supported.[3]

Protocol

A black shiny logo is also widely used for Palringo

Palringo uses a proprietary protocol that allows communication between other Palringo users. This protocol also allows communication between multiple instant messaging services through the Palringo client, however Palringo's servers do not directly interface with other services. Newer protocol versions have added social features found in most messaging services such as status messages and location data. Palringo supports voice recordings and picture transmission, group chat, voice and photo messaging to most mobile and desktop devices, and adding other major services like Facebook, MSN and Yahoo, all in one application.

Palringo Local

Palringo offers a technology, Palringo Local, which allows users to set and view peers location via manual setting, Global Positioning System (GPS), triangulation, or estimation over the current internet network.[4] It uses the Google Maps API to display peer locations, and also offers a "Nearby" section in group and friend lists to show nearby users.

Palringo Premium

Palringo offers premium accounts, which are advertised to allow users to view profile pictures and avatars, remove the banner advertisements, increase the maximum number of groups you can join from 25 to 100, increase the maximum number of contacts you can have from 250 to 500, increase the number of themes (iOS and Windows only), allow message history for the 3rd party protocols, extend the time of push notifications from 3 hours to 72 hours (iOS only) and allow landscape mode (iOS only),[5][non-primary source needed] and are available from the Palringo store and cost 500 credits/£2.99 for 12 months.[6][non-primary source needed]
