Panchal (Gujarati પંચાલ) is an Indian title, in tune with the Hindu caste system, that represents some of the castes that are predominant in the Indian state of Gujarat that are either agriculturalists (farmers) or Blacksmiths.
Ethnicity
The surname is much popular and denotes a particular Black Smith status. The Panchals mainly belong to the various Lohar castes. They are involved in carpentry, black smith and gold smith work. They are considered the spine for the village as well as urban life.
In southern part of India, the people from the Panchal community are called as Viswakarmas or Viswabrahmins.
