A monthly magazine published in Melbourne and edited anonymously by
Mervyn Skipper, ran 1934-35. A response to the unstable world situation of the time,
Pandemonium satirised a wide range of contemporary topics from capitalism and imperialism to Australian censorship and communist peace movements. Striking features of the journal are Skipper's bold cartoons and the prominence given to the views of such controversial figures as the psychologist G.W.R. Southern and the economist Major Douglas.
Pandemonium also included book reviews, theatrical notices, articles on Australian literature and short stories by Skipper, Percy Leason and Vance and Nettie Palmer.
