Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) is a private university established by Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institute through a State Act. At present, the university has in total six schools and two centres.[1][2] The current Director General of PDPU is Dr. P. K. Banik.

Admission

Admission to undergraduate B.Tech courses at School of Petroleum Technology and at School of Technology is through All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted every year by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).[3]

Student life

The Video Graphics Association, better known as the VGA, is the movie-making club at PDPU which started as a small group of students interested in making videos. The body has made several documentaries on social awareness, academics and for student entertainment. VGA also makes short films aimed at not only sending messages out to the public but also for competing in national level film festivals.[4]

Petro Cup is an "Inter-College Sports Meet" held at PDPU. Its third edition was held in January 2011, and included nine events, from football to chess. 15 colleges participated[5]

Flare is PDPU's annual techfest. The first edition was held in March 2010 and included a performance by Jal.[citation needed] The second edition, Flare 11, included performances by Agnee and DJ Suketu.[citation needed] The third edition, Flare 2012, was theme based "Streets Unleashed", and included performances by Kathak dancers, rock band Faridkot,[6] and a performance by Bollywood music duo Vishal-Shekhar along with singer Shruti Pathak.[7]
