1. F9F-5 a straight-wing jet fighter aircraft, a conventional aircraft except for the refinement of its details and ease of maintenance. Although its performance and handling were inferior to that of good fighter aircraft, it made an excellent fighter-bomber and was used in combat during the Korean War. It had only limited commonality with the Cougar, and the two fighter aircraft have the same designation only for political reasons.
