Modern Design Dictionary: Paolo Deganello

(1940- )

Italian architect, designer, and writer Deganello graduated from the School of Architecture in Florence in 1966, becoming a co-founder of the radical design group Archizoom. He has been involved in a number of architectural projects, including an urban development plan for Prato-Calenzano (1963-72) and, in 1975, was a co-founder of the Colletivo Technici Progettisti, participating in many architectural competitions and publications. He is also an articulate writer, contributing to many leading periodicals in the field including Domus and Casabella. After moving to Milan in 1972 he designed the AEO sofa for Cassina (1973). Other Deganello designs for Cassina included the Torso armchair (1982) and the Artifici tables (1985). Other companies for whom he has worked include Driade, Vitra, and Zanotta.
