Simulated trading that investors use to practice mimicking trades (buys and sells) without actually entering into any monetary transactions.

Paper trading is a good way to learn the ropes without risking any money. You can do it simply by pretending to buy and sell stock, bonds, commodities and mutual funds and keeping notes of paper profits or losses. Or you can open an account with an online market simulator.

Simulated trading of stocks, bonds, commodities and mutual funds. Real money is not used. Students learning about investing in schools or brokerage training classes may go through exercises in mock trading, in which securities prices are tracked on a daily basis and fictional trades are made. With commodity futures and options, this may take the form of going through a simulated trading session on the trading floor or using computer programs to illustrate the futures and options strategies.
