1943Father and Glorious Descendant. This autobiographical account of growing up in San Francisco's Chinatown during the early years of the century is widely regarded as a pioneering work of Asian American literature. It has also been charged with promulgating popular stereotypes of Chinese Americans and uncritically accepting the necessity of assimilation.
