Parenteral is a route of administration that involves piercing the skin or mucous membrane.[1] Parenteral nutrition refers to providing nutrition via the veins.
Etymology
From Greek para = "beside" and enteron = "intestine", because it bypasses ("goes beside instead of through") the intestines.
