Pariksha guru is written by Srinivas Das of Delhi. It is the first proper novel in hindi. It cautioned young men of well to do families from the ill effects of bad company. It shows on how to mix well with modern values by living a practical life but also shows how to still preserve traditional values and live in complete honour and dignity. It shows ways in which on can use the modern values and use indian wisdom. The characters in the novel have been shown using modern agricultural elements,changing their way of speaking their language. Children have been advised to have a good habit of reading newspaper. But the author emphases on the main fact that all this should be gained without giving up the values of the middle class household. Pariksha guru is considered to be the first novel written in Hindi. The novel was written by Srinivas Das and published in year 1882. The novel is considered a landmark in Hindi fiction. The book was reprinted in 1974 with an introduction by Ramdaras Misra. The novel tells a story of the extravagance of Hindu bankers and traders. This novel was not very famous with its readers as bangala novels of those times were love sagas wrapped in fanticies . Pariksha guru was a novel of thoughts it talked about the dilemma of being modern and the effects of bad company. the novel was filled with different characters of the society but the style of writing was new to its readers. Its theme is not to adopt Western culture.[1][2]
