particulars

A particular is a single thing, thought of in contrast to qualities or universals, or in contrast to an aggregate of things. Universals themselves can be regarded as particulars, themselves having higher order properties and relations. However, a universal can be instanced by particular things, whereas a genuine particular cannot.
