• p. disease — disease related to parturition and which occurs during or in close relationship to parturition.
• p. injury — injury sustained during birth, to the neonate or to the dam, not necessarily restricted to the birth canal or even the reproductive system, e.g. hip dislocation.
• p. paresis — see periparturient hypocalcemia.
• p. recumbency — recumbency in a female that has just borne young. May be due to hypocalcemia, toxemia, physical injury or to being unable to find suitable footing.
