proteins synthesized in plants in response to attack by fungal or bacterial pathogens, presumably involved in the plant defence mechanism. They belong to an evolutionarily related family of small, eukaryotic, extracellular proteins, dubbed CRISP (cysteine-rich secretory proteins).
