Architecture and Landscaping:

Patkau Architects

Canadian architectural firm founded in 1978 by John (1947– ) and Patricia (1950– ) Patkau. They claim to emphasize the particularities of local conditions in their designs, rather than the generalized tendencies of much western architecture. Works include the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Waterloo, Ontario (1986–92), Strawberry Vale Elementary School, Victoria, B.C. (1992–6), the Newton Library, Surrey, B.C. (1990–2), and Seabird Island School, near Agassiz, B.C. 1990–1). They have been associated with Organic and even Zoömorphic architecture.
