Career
College and Amateur
Ianni played college soccer at UCLA, where he was nominated for a Hermann Award in his junior season. He also played in the USL Premier Development League with the Southern California Seahorses.
Professional
Ianni entered the 2006 MLS SuperDraft and was chosen by Houston Dynamo as the eighth overall pick.[1] After failing to break into the Dynamo first team on a regular basis, Ianni was loaned to USL-1 side California Victory in May 2007, but he played just two games before re-joining the Dynamo. Since Ianni was drafted as an underclassman with a Generation adidas contract, he does not count against Houston's salary cap.
He made his first MLS start on June 24, 2007 against the Kansas City Wizards. In that game, he scored on a late header and contributed defensively in a 1-0 shutout win that helped earn him continued playing time as a center back. On January 26, 2009, Ianni was acquired by Seattle Sounders FC from Houston Dynamo via trade. He made his Sounders debut on May 16, 2009, on the road against FC Dallas and scored his first goal for the club against his former club Houston Dynamo on July 11, 2009.[2]
International
Ianni was a member of the U.S. U-20 national team at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands, and the U.S. U-23 national team at the 2008 Summer Olympics ion Beijing.
Personal
Ianni is the brother of fellow professional soccer player Tayt Ianni, who played for the San Jose Clash in MLS. In college, Ianni listed his career aspiration as becoming a Christian preacher.[3]
