Plot

The Belgian painter Paul Delvaux was the last surviving member of the first surrealist painters. In this documentary, Delvaux reminisces about his past, family, art, and his career with the aid of archival footage and special effects. Interviews with the artist are conducted in French but voiced over in English. Delvaux lists his major influences as the trams and trains of his childhood, a lifelike sculpture of Venus, and the Italian surrealist de Chirico. Delvaux's most famous paintings are of nude women surrounded by aloof and fully clothed men. ~ Karla Baker, Rovi
