Music Encyclopedia: Johann Paul Aegidius Martini

(b Freystadt, 31 Aug 1741; d Paris, 10 Feb 1816). German composer. After serving the Duke of Lorraine, he moved to Paris (1764) where he worked for private patrons and at the Théâtre de Monsieur; in 1800-02 he taught at the Conservatoire, and from 1814 he directed the court orchestra. His works include 13 operas, other vocal music (notably the popular song Plaisir d′amour), chamber, orchestral and band music and several treatises.

Paul Lloyd Martini (born on November 2, 1960 in Weston, Ontario) is a Canadian pair skater. With partner Barbara Underhill, he is the 1979-1983 Canadian national champion, the 1984 World champion, and the 1978 World Junior champion. They represented Canada at the 1980 Winter Olympics, where they placed 9th, and at the 1984 Winter Olympics, where they placed 7th.
